Sagawa denies Abes' involvement
key figure in the Finance Ministry's document-falsifying scandal related to a shady land deal has testified that neither Prime Minister Shinzo Abe nor his wife Akie was involved in the matter.
Nobuhisa Sagawa gave sworn testimony before the budget committees of both houses of the Diet on Tuesday.
Sagawa formerly headed the Finance Ministry's Financial Bureau, which doctored papers pertaining to the steeply discounted sale in 2016 of state-owned land in Osaka to private school operator Moritomo Gakuen.
☆Hmm...but I have to say again that it's impossible to do such things only by the bureaucrats, because they have no reason for taking risks of document-falsifying. We have to wait for the investigations of the prosecutors' office.

学校法人「森友学園」（大阪市）への国有地売却に関する決裁文書改ざん問題で、財務省が同省近畿財務局に改ざんを指示するメールを送っていたことが分かった。
大阪地検特捜部はメールを入手し内容を精査している。
財務局は当初、改ざん後の決裁文書を特捜部に提出していた。しかし、職員が任意で提出したパソコンなどを分析する中で、昨夏ごろにメールの存在を把握。削除されたデータを復元するデジタルフォレンジック（電子鑑識）などの手法で、改ざん前の文書も入手した。

TOKYO — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan offered to resign a year ago if evidence emerged linking him to a sweetheart land deal. No such evidence ever surfaced, allowing him to ride out the scandal and hang on to power.
But a government report released on Monday suggests that some crucial evidence may have been deleted — and that has put Mr. Abe back in the hot seat. An internal investigation by the Finance Ministry concluded that unidentified officials tampered with official documents related to the land deal by deleting references to Mr. Abe’s wife and senior members of his party.

The scandal centres on Moritomo Gakuen, a kindergarten in Osaka which teaches the patriotism and self-sacrifice that prevailed in prewar Japan. Last year the founders were charged with fraud over a plan to build a nationalist school.

A spiralling cronyism scandal linked to the Japanese prime minister and his wife has reached fever pitch after the finance ministry admitted to tampering with records to remove references to the pair.
Shinzo Abe acknowledged the new revelations “could undermine trust in the entire government” and added: “I deeply apologise to the people.”
The prime minister had previously said he would resign if he or his wife were shown to be involved in heavily cutting the price of public land sold to a right-wing school operator in Osaka.

Finance Ministry admits to secretly redacting official papers on Moritomo land scandal

In a revelation that could have dramatic implications for the Abe administration, the Finance Ministry admitted Monday to making dozens of deletions to 14 documents related to the shady 2016 sale of state land to nationalist school operator Moritomo Gakuen between late February 2017 and April the same year, weeks after the heavily discounted sale was first reported.
The deleted sections include the names of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife, including passages that said the head of Moritomo Gakuen at the time, Yasunori Kagoike, mentioned Akie Abe during talks with the ministry on April 28, 2016.
During an April 25, 2016, meeting with Kagoike, the first lady was quoted as saying “this is a good land plot and please promote” its plan to build an elementary school, according to a 80-page report the ministry submitted to the Diet on Monday.
☆This case now presents a serious aspect, which is pregnant with grave consequences.

☆The news (JIJI.COM) says that the Ministry of Finance of Japan has taken the policy decision to admit their altering the official documents relating to the Moritomo scandal. It's beyond my belief.
☆I don't think that it's possible to do such things only by the bureaucrats.
