Japanese novelist Kunio Tsuji once wrote down in his diary:

"I went down through the Lepic Street to the Place Blanche at half past seven in the morning and watched the morning light which came shining into the street with shops that had begun to open. The sky had begun to clear and white clouds were moving in the sky."
